In The Hood
Sham Shui Po

Sham Shui Po is a quintessentially local neighbourhood worth visiting if you’re up for an adventure amongst the working-class of Hong Kong. Get lost between the streets infamous for fabrics, electronics, art, toys and much more.

EXPLORE

If you’re into arts and crafts at all, Sham Shui Po is the place to go. Off of Nam Cheong Street, you’ll find three main streets which make up heaven on earth to all local designers – Yu Chau Street, Ki Lung Street and Tai Nam Street is where you’ll find all sort of materials in the DIY stores and shops, leather strips, ribbons, trims and charms. The shop keepers give you useful tips and inspiration ideas. Our tip would be to bring cash as small shops may not have credit card machines.

SHOP

22⁰N combines art, culture, design and handcraft in one space. Collaborating with local and international designers, they sell hand-made accessories, leather-wares and home decorations. Each brand has its meaningful concepts and story behind it – each product is uniquely made and once they are sold, they are gone. As a place for communication and exchange for designers, the second floor is a cosy chilling place for people to talk and relax. The third floor is an exhibition room which host photos exhibition from time to time.

TASTE

Established in the 50s, Kung Wo is famously known for their soya products. It is packed inside most of the time especially in the evening when the housewives visits to get Tofu for dinner. But it is worth the wait to get a seat inside and have a taste of the local dessert and snacks. Tofu Fa, bean curd jelly, is one of the must-have item in Kung Wo. A slight drizzle of yellow sugar and syrup is the ‘cherry on top’ to the silkily smooth and soft Tofu Fa. If you prefer something savoury instead, Fried bean curd stuffed with minced fish is the way to go. If you still want more soya for the road, grab a bottle of soya milk before exploring the city.
